Borussia Dortmund have today confirmed that Thomas Broich (43) will become the club’s new head of youth academy.
The Köln, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Nürnberg player was a most recently Head of Methodology at Hertha Berlin, and comes to the club having also worked as part of the youth teams at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Broich will succeed Lars Ricken, who was recently promoted to managing director at Dortmund.
“Thomas has a huge passion for promoting young talent and has a wealth of experience as a professional in the Bundesliga and abroad,” said Ricken. “During his time in Frankfurt and Berlin, he gained valuable insights into the training of young players. In addition, he is known as a TV expert and has demonstrated his expertise in this area as well, bringing in another facet of football to the table.”
Broich added that he had positive discussed with Ricken with both finding an agreement regarding the club’s future: “Just like me, the BVB youth performance centre has the ambition to constantly develop its own training concept and game idea. I can hardly wait to shape this path together with everyone involved.”
Broich will start his new role on July 1, with his contract valid until June 2027.
