FC Köln have today parted ways with head coach Timo Schultz.
The mutual agreement between both parties came after a comprehensive analysis of last season. Schultz succeeded Steffen Baumgart in January but despite an improvement, the 46-year-old was unable to prevent Köln’s relegation to the 2. Bundesliga. In charge of 18 games, Schultz won three, drew eight and lost seven, averaging 0.94 points per match.
Köln also confirmed that both André Pawlak and Kevin McKenna will leave the club, with the Billy Goats now searching for a new management team ahead of the 2024/25 season.
In a club statement, Managing director Christian Keller said: “We deliberately took a lot of time last week to work through the second half of the season with Timo and to turn over every stone. As a result, we were of the unanimous opinion that we need to start the second division season – which will bring with it major challenges – with new impulses in the coaching team.
“I would like to thank Timo for his great commitment to FC. As a coach and as a person, he gave his best for FC from his first to his last day at work. On behalf of all FC officials and FC employees, I wish him all the best for his future.”
Köln will be playing alongside the likes of Hamburg, Hannover, Schalke, Hertha Berlin, Kaiserslautern and Nürnberg next season, all German giants.
