Wolfsburg have today confirmed the signing of Mohamed Amoura for a reported €17m plus future bonuses.
The 24-year-old scored 23 goals in 48 games last season for Belgian side Union St. Gilloise, helping his side to a runners-up place, as well as winning the Belgian Cup.
“Mohamed has attracted a lot of attention due to his qualities,” said VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz. “We’re pleased that he’ll be a VfL Wolfsburg player going forward. He fits our requirements perfectly, offers immense speed and goal threat and can play in multiple positions in attack. We’re sure he’ll provide a lot of joy to VfL and the Bundesliga as a whole.”
VfL had been monitoring the situation of Amoura and tabled a bid for the Algerian forward but it was reported that Jørgen Strand Larsen was their primary target. But after the Dane joined Wolves from Celta Vigo, Wolfsburg advanced their pursuit of Amoura.
A different profile to Jonas Wind, Wolfsburg don’t expect the Dane, who has a contract until 2026, to leave the club. Wind scored 11 and created seven in 34 Bundesliga games in what was a difficult campaign for Wolfsburg last season, while Amoura, who can play in attack or out wide, should complement the Denmark international.
Amoura told the club’s official website: “I’m proud and happy that I can play for such a big club in Germany. I’ve always had the Bundesliga in mind as the next step in my career, so VfL Wolfsburg is the perfect match for me.”
