Omari Forson was substituted after 36 minutes following the pre-season clash, but Manchester United ace now starts £85m Antony
Omari Forson would not have expected a Premier League debut this campaign after being hooked after 36 minutes of a pre-season match.
The 19-year-old did his first start with Manchester United last Sunday, counting on the trust of Erik ten Hag play from the beginning against Fulham at Old Trafford.
This came after he was introduced as a replacement for united man against Wolves earlier this month to make his first appearance in the top flight.
Forson, who was active in the Tottenham youth team, started to replace the injured player. Rasmus Hojlundoccupying a place on the right wing with Mark Rashford moving to the front.
He only played 53 minutes, but would have been delighted with his playing time, especially after what happened before the season.
The United star played a friendly against Borussia Dortmund in July, but was substituted just half an hour into the match.
Despite making a positive start, Forson collided with Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi, kicking him as he tried to win the ball.
Adeyemi would react alongside his teammate Julian Ryerson and the latter would face the United youngster.
Forson then lost his cool. and waved his arm at Ryerson, causing him to be reprimanded.
Ten Hag was furious on the touchline and instantly decided to take him out, giving him a long lecture in the technical area before leaving the field.
Speaking about the incident, the Dutch manager said: “When there is a VAR, they send him off.
“He played a good game and the opponent gets upset with him, so it's a learning curve, but don't take it into your own hands.
“You can't be the judge, you have to play football, you have to beat your opponent, you have to score and that is the best way to react.”
Ten Hag must have been confident that Forson had learned from his mistake and earned a place in the first team this season.
The teenager has the trust of his manager, so much so that he started before signing an £85million contract. Anthony against Fulham.
It was a decision that Ten Hag made easily, according to The Athleticwith Forson highly regarded by the United manager.
Antony has fallen out of favor this season and only played one minute late in the match after remaining on the bench despite a top three spot opening up.
The Brazilian does not add goals or assists in the first division This season, Forson has already contributed more goals in less than 90 minutes.
He helped Kobbie Mainoo's last breath against Wolves in their debut in the top flight.
And Ten Hag are likely to continue using their teenage star in the club's second most expensive signing of all time.
“I think it was reasonable,” the Red Devils coach said after Forson's first start. “He had some good deeds.
“He was reliable in defense and had good actions in possession.
“I saw that, for the first time, he did well.”
Forson is expected to make many more appearances this season and United need a spark in the final third.
And after his pre-season sermon from Ten Hag, it appears he has now been taken under his manager's wing as he looks to take a step forward for the Red Devils.
