Spink played a part the last time the two clubs met, back in the quarter-finals of the 1983 European Cup.

Villa ended up losing 5-2 on aggregate following a 2-1 loss in the first leg at Villa Park, but the tie left a lasting impression on the goalkeeper.

“The two best atmospheres I experienced at Villa Park during my time as a Villa player were both that season (1982/83), for the games against Juventus in the European Cup and Barcelona in the European Super Cup,” reflected Spink.

“Night games always produced a brilliant atmosphere at Villa Park but there was something particularly special when Juventus and Barcelona came to town.”
