Rio Ferdinand has slammed Jamie Carragher's criticism of Casemiro, calling it “highly disrespectful”.

The Brazilian star was found guilty of two of the goals conceded by Manchester United in Their 3-0 defeat against Liverpool on Sunday.

After attracting criticism last season, Casemiro He looked much more like his elite form in Manchester United's first two Premier League games, but came in for plenty of criticism for his role in the defeat to Arne's Slotside of.

Following a lackluster performance from Casemiro during the defeat to Crystal Palace, Carragher urged the 32-year-old to step away from top-flight football, saying: 'Quit football before football quits you.'

Carragher's quote has been circulating on social media and has seen a surge following Sunday's defeat to Manchester United, and the comment has not gone down well with Red Devils legend Ferdinand.

Speech in his podcastFerdinand said: “I heard Jamie say 'leave football before football leaves you'. I think that's very disrespectful.

“I think it's really disrespectful, especially considering what my man has won – they don't have a big enough trophy case for what he's won.

“There's more to it than just the fact that I made a couple of mistakes.

“I think if you look at the last two games this season, he's arguably been Manchester United's best player.

“It's easier to say he's gone, he's finished. He's almost 32, but when I look at him, I feel like he's being asked to do a lot of things, like play 30-yard balls and dictate the pace of the game, etc.

“These are things that Manchester United would never have signed him for because they had never asked him to do this in real Madrid.

“I was clearing out, like I was a safety up front, doing sliding tackles, covering all the gaps and then giving the ball to other people to play football with.

“But now he’s being asked to do things he’s never done before, so he’s going to make mistakes because it’s not his natural game.”

Following Carragher's comments on Sky Sports, Gary Neville He added: “It feels like a great moment (Casemiro's replacement).

Casemiro is one of the most decorated midfielders in world football right now, having won three LaLiga titles and five Champions Leagues during his time at Real Madrid.

He also won the America's Cup with Brazil and the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup with Manchester United.

Since joining the Red Devils for £70m, Casemiro has made 87 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists.
