Patrice Evra reveals Premier League club made shock offer to sign him three years after his retirement
Patrice Evra has revealed that a Premier League club tried to sign him three years after his retirement.
The 43-year-old won five league titles in England with manchester united before a brief spell at West Ham towards the end of his career.
However, he ended his playing days in 2018 after leaving the Hammers aged 37.
However, some three years after retiring, the former France international was approached about returning to the game.
Evra has revealed that an unnamed Premier League team were keen to sign him in 2021, only for him to reject the offer.
appearing in Tea with Me Podcast by Shane ToddHe explained: “Three years ago a Premier League team approached me about playing again, but to be honest I don't miss football.
“But if you say, 'Patrice, come on, we have a game,' I'll train like I did when I was a professional.
“People don't understand it, some play football for fun, but I always say that it's easy to get to the top of the pyramid, but to stay at the top is when you have to make sacrifices. It's a 24-hour job. ; there is than eating and sleeping football. You have to dedicate yourself to that.
“When you do that, you sacrifice time with your family and with your friends.
“I always tell the story of when I came home one day and my son, who was three, was crying. I asked him why and he said: 'Because I hate Manchester United.'
“I thought, 'Oh my God, it's Liverpool or Chelsea, man, don't tell me that or I'm going to have a heart attack,' but I asked him why and he said, 'Manchester United took my dad.' “
Evra made 273 Premier League appearances for United and five more for West Ham during a brief spell in east London.
During his time at Old Trafford, the left-back also won 14 trophies, including the Champions League and Club World Cup.
Meanwhile, he was at Monaco, Juventus and Marseille, in addition to playing 81 international matches for France.
