Paul Pogba details his relationship with José Mourinho and reveals that Manchester United blocked the transfer

Paul Pogba claims that his relationship with José Mourinho was similar to that of “boyfriend and girlfriend.”

It has also revealed how Manchester United Former chief executive Ed Woodward rejected his wishes to leave the club in 2019.

Pogba has spoken to the media just two weeks after completing his four-year ban from football for doping. reduced to 18 months.

His career began at United and after four seasons at Juventus, he returned to Old Trafford in the summer of 2016.

However, six years after they split when Mourinho was sacked, the midfielder has looked back on his relationship with the Portuguese icon.

“Our relationship was like boyfriend and girlfriend, we were breaking up and making up all the time,” he told daily mail.

“It started off great, he was one of the reasons I came back to Manchester because I spoke to him and he convinced me to come back. I don't know why it became a nightmare and we were fighting. Because I wasn't fighting.” .I didn't start the fight.

“We didn't agree, as coaches and players sometimes do. But there is a lot of respect on my part for him. If I see him tomorrow it will be a big hug! But one day we will have to sit down together and discuss it.”

United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Mourinho and Pogba scored 11 goals in 27 appearances over the remainder of the 2018/19 season.

Despite his good form, the now 31-year-old hinted at a possible exit in search for a 'new challenge' that following summer, and has now revealed how that exit was blocked.

In the same interview, Pogba continued: “I'll tell you something I've never told anyone.

“The year José left and Ole arrived was my best season at United, but after the last game I told Ole and Ed Woodward that I thought it was my last year and I wanted to leave.

“At that time I was 27 years old and it didn't go the way I wanted. I gave my best, but I didn't see the club progressing. Manchester City and Liverpool were better than us and improving. Ole said yes (for me to leave) and that I would talk to Ed.

“I already had it in my head that I wanted to leave, but I came back for pre-season because I wanted to be a professional. I spoke to Ed to try to make a move, but he blocked it.

“I didn't want to play for United anymore, but I had to be professional. Mentally I wasn't there and then I suffered the injuries.”

Pogba left United in 2022 and is currently at Juventus, and his return to football could come later this season following the reduction of his doping ban.

He tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone in his system and the Italian National Anti-Doping Court issued the sanction in February.

During an interview with Sky Sports published on Wednesday, he accepted responsibility but believes the initial four-year ban, which has now been reduced to 18 months, was harsh.

“Yes, of course (accept responsibility). That means I take responsibility for yes, I took the supplement,” he said.

“I didn't triple check it, let's put it that way, even if it came from a professional. If I have to be punished, I'm fine with it. But it should never be four years.”

When asked why he took the medication, he said: “I would tell you the whole story, but the easiest way is to get you the document.”

“Then you can see for yourself, it explains everything. That's the only thing I would say.”

“Not at all (to do with physical condition), seriously, you have all the answers (in the document), it was just general things. It had nothing to do with the injuries or the document.

“They are like supplements that you would take. You would probably take it, go to the pharmacy and get the supplements. In my case it was totally different because a professional gave it to me for just having a supplement for normal health. But there was a mistake there.”
