'People want me there': Arsenal cult hero Santi Cazorla hints at possible Emirates return after holding talks with Mikel Arteta
Santi Cazorla has confirmed that talks have been held about an emotional return to Arsenal, six years after leaving the Emirates.
He 39 years He spent six successful seasons in north London between 2012 and 2018, where he scored 29 goals in 180 games.
The fan favorite has won the FA Cup twice (scoring in the thrilling 3-2 final victory over Hull in 2014) and has also taken out the Community Shield on two occasions.
And the midfielder has hinted at a return to the gunners after he was unable to properly say goodbye due to injuries limiting him from appearing in his final campaign.
It has been widely reported that Cazorla will end his illustrious career this summer, where he is currently looking to inspire Real Oviedo to promotion to LaLiga via the play-offs.
Cazorla has spoken in the past of his desire to return to Arsenal once he hangs up his boots, and could become part of his former teammate Mikel ArtetaThe coaching staff.
In an interview with sky sportsThe 2008 and 2012 Euro champion said: “I have a very special affection for Arsenal.
“I spent six wonderful years there and I know how much all the people there love me.
“Of course, I was lucky to share a dressing room with Mikel Arteta and now he is the coach.
“We had conversations about that, but right now I'm not focused on anything other than contributing to this club, Oviedo, and continuing to enjoy football as a player.
“Then we will see what the future holds for me. It is clear that Arsenal is a club that has always left the door open for me to return.
“But now I have enough on my mind with the play-offs and trying to enjoy the last days of my playing career.”
Arteta, who captained Cazorla during his time at Arsenal, hinted earlier this year that his fellow Spaniard could have a role at the club.
He remarked: “Depending on the role. You already know my sympathy for Santi.
“We used to get along very, very well.
“I think he had incredible energy and as a coaching staff, having someone like that, you can trust his knowledge.
“But his energy also for the team. I think it will be valid.”
