Premier League fans could finally find out why referees changed their minds following VAR intervention next season.
This is according to PGMOL boss Howard Webb, who has proposed a major change to VAR using the public address system in top-flight stadiums.
As it is, fans attending matches are left in the dark as to why referees change their decision after visiting the pitchside monitor.
The idea was proposed during the recent Premier League shareholders meeting and former official Webb, who officiated the 2010 World Cup final between Spain and the Netherlands, discussed the proposal during the latest edition of Match Officials. microphone up.
If the idea is approved, Webb has stated that it will help fans better understand the process to avoid confusion.
However, no explanations will be broadcast over the loudspeakers through VAR checks that do not result in the original on-field decisions being overturned.
Webb said: “It needs to be improved, doesn't it?
“When you listen to clips from shows like this, it makes sense what's happening, it all becomes apparent.
“You will hear the referee, Andy Madley, having been on screen saying: 'I'm going to speak to Lewis Dunk to explain why the penalty he feels he should have received is not going to be given because he was fouled by (Yoane) Wissa before of that.
“We are looking for ways to improve the experience at the stadium.
“One of the things you may have seen at FIFA tournaments, like the Women's World Cup, are the referee's announcements once they've been on the screen.
“So we're looking at that, we're keeping an open mind about whether it's something we could use in the Premier League.
“It would be really useful for the referee to be able to talk to all the people in the stadium, (to explain) the reason.”
If the Premier League approves the new VAR change, it will likely be introduced next season.
