Arsenal have agreed to loan midfielder Fabio Vieira back to Porto.

Vieira, 24, joined Arsenal from Porto in 2022 for £30m but has struggled to make an impact.

Porto want him to replace Francisco Conceicao who is an option for Juventus

The 24-year-old won’t be in the Arsenal squad to face Aston Villa this weekend as he finalises his return to Porto.

The imminent arrival of Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad plus the continued development of 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri means that Vieira isn’t a key part of Arsenal’s plans.

Vieira has made 49 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions and has scored three goals, while he has provided nine assists.

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Spain international Merino following further talks with Sociedad.

The Gunners had an initial offer of £21.5million for Merino rejected.

As well as Vieira, Arsenal are set to sanction another departure, with Eddie Nketiah poised to join Nottingham Forest for £30million.

Nketiah, who joined Arsenal as an academy player, has scored 38 goals in 168 games for the Gunners.
