Premier League LIVE: Tuchel appointed England manager on 18-month contract, Spence signs new contract with Tottenham, Chelsea goalkeeper suffers rare injury
'Various candidates'
The FA have revealed that they spoke to many potential successors to Gareth Southgate before opting for Thomas Tuchel.
The former Bayern Munich coach has signed an 18-month contract, which will start in January, meaning it is clear that his mandate is to win the World Cup in 2026.
He also signed his contract more than a week ago.
The FA do not mention who they had spoken to, but Pep Guardiola, Eddie Howe and Graham Potter were all linked to the job, so it would be expected that the candidates would have been of a high caliber.
The process to find England's next permanent manager began in July and it has been decided that Tuchel is the man to lead the Three Lions.
This will surely please Harry Kane, who has a big fan in Tuchel.
Speaking about England's captain last year, the new Three Lions boss said: “He's just a gift, I feel very privileged to be his manager. “The guy is super humble, he's the first one on the pitch every day and Ask him anything, he will do it.
“He is a huge personality who becomes a shark on the field, because he wants to score, he wants to win, and he does it every day. Not only does he score every day, he trains well, he does it.” What is needed, shows its quality.
“He calms everyone around him and makes everyone better with his pure presence. It's the highest level, I can say it that way, as a human being but also as a footballer. It's a very different profile than all my other players. He can playing as a nine, a fox in the area like no other with excellent definition, but he also assists.
