Chelsea fans were left furious after Ipswich Town were awarded a penalty early in their Premier League clash.

Delap took the penalty and scored 1-0. ipswich at Portman Road, with Chelsea fans furious on social media.
“How the hell is that a penalty? That's a great dive from Delap,” said one X user.

“That's never a penalty,” said a third.
A fourth added: “How did VAR confirm that as a penalty when there is no contact? It's ridiculous.”
Shortly afterwards, the Premier League Match Center explained why the penalty was upheld.
“The penalty called by the referee for a foul by Jörgensen on Delap was verified and confirmed by the VAR, which considered that there was enough contact to sanction a penalty,” the statement reads.
Chelsea thought they had equalized midway through the first half, but Joao Felix's goal was disallowed for offside after a long check.
Ipswich maintained their 1-0 lead going into the break.
