After their progression into the quarter finals of the Champions League in midweek, Bayern Munich return to the Bundesliga on Saturday as they host Mainz at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.
It was a much more comfortable match on Wednesday for Bayern against Lazio after losing 1-0 away from home in the first leg. A Harry Kane double and another goal from Thomas Muller topped off an impressive display from Thomas Tuchel’s side.
In the Bundesliga, Bayern are still ten points behind Bayer Leverkusen who are leading the race for the title. On paper, Bayern won’t get much of an easier chance to get three points this season than against a struggling Mainz side.
Mainz currently sit in 17th place in the relegation zone and have won just once in their last 14 matches. They have just 16 points which is their lowest ever at this point of a Bundesliga season.
An away fixture at Bayern Munich is something that new head coach Bo Henriksen will not be wanting.
Since Henriksen has taken over though, Mainz have picked up four points from their last three games which has prevented them from being out of the race for survival and has provided a glimmer of hope for his side.
They will be looking to stop Bayern from doing the double over them as the reverse fixture back in October saw Bayern run out 3-1 winners.
