Punjabi Villans were celebrating at Wembley Stadium last month after winning Best Fan Group at the Asian Football Awards.
The club’s Fans For Diversity fan group were recognised for their efforts in championing the South Asian community and helping to enhance equality within Aston Villa.
Guri Nandra and other Punjabi Villan members collected the award during an awards ceremony at the national stadium on Wednesday, September 25.
“We are very honoured to be presented with this accolade,” Nandra said.
“As a group we just want to promote the getting together of fans no matter the creed colour or background.
“This award is not just for Punjabi Villans but all those pushing diversity and inclusion.
“Thank you, Aston Villa, for giving us the opportunity and supporting us through this journey.”
Sam Ghataora, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead at Aston Villa was thrilled by the news.
He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to share that our Fans for Diversity Fan group Punjabi Villans has won the Best Fan Group at the Asian Football Awards.
“The fan group has been active since 2014 and has an online following of over 14K. The group promote the Punjabi culture of equality for all and have an inclusive approach when celebrating their love for Aston Villa.”
Established with the purpose of acknowledging and rewarding the contributions of British South Asians in the football industry, the Asian Football Awards (AFA) serve as a significant platform.
The primary objective is to showcase the diverse talents of coaches, volunteers, players, administrators, and fans within the South Asian community who share a profound love for the game.
