Bild reports that Real Madrid Castilla head coach and former striker Raúl wants to leave Spain, amid rumours linking him to the vacant Schalke head coach job.
The former Schalke striker is drawn to coaching aboard and in Spain, he only has an interest in managing Real Madrid’s senior side. That is unlikely to happen as Madrid prefer former midfielder and Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso as Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement.
It is also said by reports in Spain that Raúl is also a candidate for Hoffenheim if they decide to part ways with head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo.
Schalke are also preparing in case Raúl does not return to the Veltins Arena. Current interim head coach Jakob Fimpel is an option if he impresses in Schalke’s game away at Preußen Münster and then against Hertha Berlin at home. Fimpel is said to fit the desired criteria of what Schalke are looking for in a head coach. Die Königsblau had also been linked with Alemannia Aachen head coach Heiner Backhaus who is a Schalke fan.
Schalke dismissed previous head coach Karel Geraerts after the club started the 2.Bundesliga season poorly and then threw away a three-goal lead to lose 5-3 to Darmstadt last Friday evening.
