Rayan Cherki to RB Leipzig is off

As reported via Florian Plettenberg, Rayan Cherki’s move from Olympique Lyonnais to RB Leipzig is off.

It had previously been reported that Die Roten Bullen were pushing to secure a deal for Cherki as the long-term replacement for Dani Olmo.

However, Leipzig have instead agreed to sign Club Brugge winger Antonio Nusa for a reported fee of €20–22.5 million.

Therefore, despite ongoing talks with the Ligue 1 outfit, Marco Rose’s side will not sign Cherki this summer, with the 20-year-old seemingly destined to remain at Lyon for the upcoming campaign.

This comes after Borussia Dortmund also pulled out of a deal to sign Cherki this summer, despite also pushing to get a deal over the line.

From Leipzig’s perspective, talks with Lyon were not progressing as fast as they would have hoped, while a deal for Nusa was simple to complete.

As for other targets, such as Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven and Francisco Conceição from FC Porto, they were considered too expensive for Die Roten Bullen.
