RB Leipzig believe they can keep Xavi Simons long-term

A matter of months ago, there were questions surrounding Xavi Simons’ future amid interest from Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.

In a battle for the Dutchman’s signature, there was a belief that Der Rekordmeister would prevail, leaving Die Roten Bullen behind.

However, Simons, like a number of different players this summer, elected to reject a move to Bavaria.

This was undoubtedly frustrating for the record champions, but with Simons’ return to Leipzig being just another loan deal, there is a sense that securing his signature on a permanent deal in 2025 will be possible.

Nevertheless, there is a belief within the Leipzig camp that they will be able to not just compete with Bayern but beat them to Simons’ signature next summer.

Speaking about a permanent move for Simons, Die Roten Bullen’s CEO, Oliver Mintzlaff, commented:

“Our management has to negotiate that with PSG. For now, he is on loan. But, of course, our goal is to keep top players like him on a long-term basis. We’ve now shown that it’s possible, even against strong competition. Šeško had substantial offers, including from the Premier League, but he chose to stay with us and even extended his contract.”

It had previously been reported that Benjamin Šeško turned down the opportunity to sign for Arsenal this summer, extending his deal with Leipzig in the process.

It is clear to see that players feel comfortable in Saxony and understand that Marco Rose’s side are the ideal team for their development.

Therefore, should Simons decide to sign permanently for Leipzig, it should come as little surprise, subsequently becoming the beginning of something special at the Red Bull Arena.
