According to Florian Plettenberg, RCD Mallorca are set to sign former Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels.
Last season, Hummels helped guide Die Schwarzgelben to their third-ever Champions League final, playing every single minute on offer en route to Wembley Stadium.
Therefore, when the 35-year-old decided to depart the Westfalenstadion, there was anticipation surrounding who would be fortunate to snap up the 2014 World Cup winner.
Nevertheless, despite the best efforts of a number of sides, Hummels has yet to make a decision regarding his future.
Initially, there were suggestions that Mallorca would lure the defender away from the Bundesliga, but interest stalled when Bologna offered Hummels a contract proposal.
However, after refusing to make a decision on a move to Italy, Brighton & Hove Albion took pole position, with head coach Fabian Hürzeler discussing the future plans he had for Hummels on the Sussex Coast.
Regardless, the deal failed to progress, and now Mallorca appear to be close to finding an agreement.
Negotiations between the Spanish side and Hummels have been positive, with the 35-year-old on the island looking to agree to a deal.
It is understood that Brighton are still in the race, but as it stands, Mallorca are now likely to make a deal official.
