According to the Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sky Germany), Real Madrid have entered the race to sign Mats Hummels on a free transfer.
It had previously been reported that the former Borussia Dortmund defender was close to joining Italian outfit FC Bologna. As well as this, it is understood that Hummels had agreed personal terms with Bologna.
However, the German defender has yet to make his final decision. Hummels is looking to take time to ensure that he makes the right move, as he believes it to be the final transfer of his career.
This has, therefore, allowed Los Blancos to enter the race to secure his signature. As stated in the report, Real are looking to recruit a centre-half this summer after missing out on Leny Yoro.
The European champions are also considering signing Hummels’ previous defensive partner, Nico Schlotterbeck. Nevertheless, as it stands, Bologna are still favourites to sign Hummels, who is looking for a future away from the Bundesliga.
