Real Madrid seemed to be on the back foot in the race for Alphonso Davies'signature, but the long saga of the transfer of the Canadian defender took another turn. After talks in Germany between Bayern Munich and his agent took place last week in Bavaria, it seems that the door has been opened to Los Blancos.

According to MarcoReal Madrid are much closer to getting the green light from Davies than they thought last week. Despite the ongoing negotiations with Bayern, an agreement is yet to be reached, something that increases optimism in the Spanish capital. After agreeing terms with Real Madrid almost a year ago, what gives Los Blancos increased optimism is that Davies' agent, Nedal Huoseh, has instructed lawyers to draw up the contracts, putting in writing what they had agreed to.

Naturally, Davies still has to sign this contract, but Real Madrid takes it as a positive sign. They won't change their offer, but Bayern have pushed to match Davies' demands, and their latest offer puts the left-back just behind Harry Kane on their wage scale. Real Madrid is convinced that his desire to play for Real Madrid will end up tipping the scales in his favor.

Of his current options, Fran Garcia doesn't seem to be trusted in the bigger games, while Ferland Mendy has experienced a dramatic drop in form since last season, complete with new injury problems. Davies, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, is their primary target to make a change in their backline next summer.
