On Saturday, it was revealed that Nacho Fernandez has decided to leave Real Madrid when his contract expires at the end of this month. The 34-year-old has agreed terms with newly-promoted Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah, who he will join once their participation at Euro 2024 is over.
Nacho is currently the club captain, and will of course relinquish that role once he leaves. Real Madrid's next skipper has been revealed by Miguel Angel Diaz, and it will be Luka Modric wearing the armband. He will be the first captain, followed by the right wing duo of Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez.
Real Madrid Captains Order for Season 24/25:
1️⃣ Modric
2️⃣ Carvajal
3️⃣ Lucas Vázquez
4️⃣ Valverde
5️⃣ Courtois
6️⃣ Vinicius— Miguel Ángel Díaz (@miguelitocope) June 22, 2024
Federico Valverde would be next in line next, followed by Thibaut Courtois and Vinicius Junior. Chances are they will all move somewhere again next summer, with Modric expected to retire in 2025.
It will be a great honor for Modric Real Madrid captain, something that is fully deserved after his 12 years of service so far. He will hope to lead Los Blancos to several titles next season, which, like Nacho in 2023-24, is likely to be his only campaign with the armband.
