Real Madrid are postponing all upcoming concerts at the Santiago Bernabeu to comply with the capital city’s noise regulations.
The 85,000 capacity stadium frequently plays host to world famous artists, with Madrid last season asking La Liga to move their final match of the 2023-24 campaign to give them more time to set up for a Taylor Swift concert.
However, the club say despite making reinforcements to the Bernabeu’s sound-proofing measures, it does not comply with Madrid’s regulations for concerts.
As a result, new dates will be announced for Spanish artist Dellafuente, who had been due to play at the Bernabeu in November, and for singer songwriter Aitana, who was scheduled to play two nights in December. The K Pop concert Music Bank that had been due to take place in October has also been cancelled.
A club statement read: “Real Madrid C. F. announces that it has decided to provisionally reschedule its schedule of events and concerts at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
“This decision is part of a series of measures that the club has been taking to ensure strict compliance with current municipal regulations during concerts.
“Despite the soundproofing conditions of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium and the reinforcement measures that have been undertaken, compliance with these regulations by the various organisers and promoters has been affected by the great challenge they have faced in taking into account all its precepts.
“Real Madrid will continue to work to ensure that during concerts there are the precise conditions in the production and broadcasting of sound that allow concerts to be held in our stadium.
“Real Madrid will continue to collaborate with the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council for sustainability and coexistence, and will always aim to ensure that the stadium’s activities guarantee its commitment to the city of Madrid and are beneficial to its environment.”
Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones and U2 are among the artists to have played at the Bernabeu down the years.
The Bernabeu stadium is currently undergoing a redevelopment, which began in 2019. The renovation has included the introduction of the retractable turf, a retractable roof and a 360-degree video scoreboard.
Thanks to the retractable turf and roof, Madrid expect to bring in more revenue by hosting other sporting events, and it the stadium is set to host a regular season NFL game in 2025.
