Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal has confirmed that he would like to switch to Qatari football when he leaves Los Blancos. The 32-year-old admitted that he does not have long in the game, and it seems that he does not plan to retire at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Carvajal he turns 33 in two weeks, and with Real Madrid chasing Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, he may consider a move at some point. He is currently recovering from a cruciate ligament tear in his knee, which has kept him out for a year.
“I'm 32 years old, I'm not a kid anymore. What can I miss? Four or five years of football? It's not much, time goes by quickly,” he said Esquire. He was not opposed to moving to the Middle East.
“It does not seem crazy to me. I have already said that if I ever leave Real Madrid I will not play in Europe, I will not compete against Madrid in the Champions League or in Spain.
Former teammate Joselu Mato currently plays in Qatar for Al-Gharafa, having moved from Real Madrid in the summer. Carvajal and Joselu are married to twin sisters Daphne and Melanie, and so are now brothers-in-law.
“It would be a likely destination. Joselu tells me: “I'm waiting for you here, I'll save you the right seat”. It's a competition in which all the stadiums are close, there is a very high quality of life. And he won, to have that important financial remuneration, which is a spectacular culmination to his career. I am very happy for him, for my sister-in-law and for my grandchildren,” he explained.
It would be a surprise if Carvajal does not try to get back into Spain's 2026 World Cup squad, with Pedro Porro and Oscar Mingueza currently his main competition for the spot. Carvajal should return to action around seven months before the World Cup, and but if Alexander-Arnold arrivescan find more difficult minutes to come, as he tries to find his sharpness.
