Real Madrid is Andriy Lunin They are close to an agreement for the Ukrainian to sign a new four-year contract with the club, after a successful season in which he proved key in their triumph of the League and the way to the final of the Champions League.
His future had been in doubt, with his contract running out next year, and the prospect of returning to a role on the bench next season, as Thibaut Courtois returns to fitness. The Belgian also looks set to start in the Champions League final. However Lunin agreed to compete with Courtois with his place, as per Reliefand only minor details stand between the pen being put to paper.
The club feels he has earned the new deal, which gives him even more power in a potential negotiation if another party comes for him. The deal will also see his status change recognized, and a salary increase from one of the lowest in the team. They are awaiting offers for the 25-year-old this summer, and have agreed with his agent Jorge Mendes that they will consider offers if they are deemed “important”. Bearing in mind Lunin will start for Ukraine in the Euros this summer, this is not excluded.
It's a deal that makes sense Real Madrid, which ensures a strong back-up option and potentially a larger fee should it be sold. Lunin is obviously getting more money, and maybe that's a sign that there aren't any major offers on the table right now that would otherwise have potentially earned him more money and a starting spot elsewhere. There is also perhaps some hope on his part that he will eventually be able to replace Courtois.
