Real Madrid and La Liga are never short of differences of opinion, and quite often these disputes become legal. This week Los Blancos' latest complaints come in the form of funding F Leaguethe women's league.
According to ReliefReal Madrid general manager Jose Angel Sanchez told La Liga president Javier Tebas “It's too much. We have to cut it,” although the adjective they used was “spat.” The incident happened at the Assembly of Clubs, and saw a lot of discussion from other members of the meeting. “JAS”, as he is known, also had a member of Real Madrid's legal team with him at the Liga offices.

This season, La Liga contributed 8 million euros to Liga F, part of a five-year funding package worth 40 million euros, of which this is the third year. The first two saw contributions of 6 million euros, and the last two will see contributions of 10 million euros from the general income of the League. The League consists of 42 clubs between Primera and Segunda, of which only 13 are represented in Liga F, but unanimously the other clubs agree for the funding. It should be noted that Real Madrid they are one of those clubs involved in the F League.
The F League has suffered some financial setbacks in recent years, with former sponsor Finetwork failing to meet its payment. The league also earns money for TV rights with DAZN, and 20 million euros a year from the Ministry of Sports (CSD). They also awarded €19.5 million in that period for projects to help the development of women's football. The suggestion is that Real Madrid are not happy given the strain placed on their accounts, in addition to what is happening with Liga F.
Real Madrid have been criticized in the past for their lack of funding for the women's team, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid spending much more and earlier on their women's teams. In 2019, Real Madrid acquired an existing women's club in the Spanish capital called CD Tacon, and later changed its name to Real Madrid Femenino. They were one of the last top teams in Europe to field a women's team, and it certainly seems like an odd point to take a position, for a club that boasted revenue of over €1 billion last season.
