Takefusa Kubo is unlikely to leave Real Sociedad this summer, especially with the expected departures of Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi to join the already departed Robin Le Normand. That hasn't stopped the rumors from spreading, with reported interest from Liverpool being the most prominent.
It does not appear that Liverpool have made an offer, but Kubo himself has confirmed that a club in Saudi Arabia has. Speaking to France Football (via MD), revealed that he rejected a proposal worth 160 million euros (four-year contract, 40 million euros per season). He did it because he wants to stay in Europe.
“The most important thing for me since I was a kid has been to play against the best and with the best.”
However, Kubo does not rule out making the move to Saudi Arabia in the future – even if things would need to change drastically for that to happen.
“If one day, soon or very far, Saudi Arabia becomes the best league in the world for sporting merits, I will go. But for the moment, it is only economically attractive.”
Kubo, who has a release clause of 60 million euros, should be a very important player for Royal Society during the 2024-25 season, and the club's owners hope to be able to retain his services until the deadline for the summer transfer window.
