Manchester United ensured something of a blow in beating Real Madrid to the signing of Leny Yoro, paying more than the odds in an agreement of 72 million euros to Lille, and a contract of at least 45 million euros for the player. However, it was surprising to some that they were the only competition for the Blancos.
Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain were interested in Yoro, but the former left after Yoro agreed terms with Los Blancos. Like PSG, but they did not match United's offer, or at least provide competition, once it became clear that there was a possibility of going elsewhere. According to Brandthe reason was that the PSG had carried out medical tests on Yoro and detected a weakness in his metatarsal.
United were willing to take the risk despite his foot problems, but he was hit early by a two-month injury lay-off for Yoro, after playing in a friendly for Erik ten Hag. Hopefully this will be the last of it for the 18-year-old talent, who looks like he could become one of the best in the world.
