Fernando and Ronaldo starred in Sir Alex Ferguson's film Manchester United teams in the 2000s, winning three Premier League titles and one Champions League together, among other honours.

But beyond all the trophies won, the Manchester United team had a humorous side.

Ronaldo recently joined his former teammate in his podcast to talk all things Manchester United, and when asked if he could remember any of his team-mates' nicknames, Ronaldo revealed the hilarious one they'd given John O'Shea.

More about Cristiano Ronaldo

—Oh, Sheasy had a good fight too, remember? —said Ferdinand. —He didn't have a nickname, but you used to kill him in the dressing room.

What did you used to say about him?

Ronaldo laughed out loud and smiled, before saying: “No, ass!”

The Irishman wasn't the only one with a hilarious nickname.

Ronaldo smiled as he recalled his friend Wayne Rooney: “Wazza. Rat.”

When Ferdinand told them that Rooney also had the nickname Shrek, after the fictional DreamWorks ogre, the pair laughed.

“I forgot about that!” Ferdinand laughed. “Wazza won’t be happy.”

This is not the first time O'Shea has been mocked over Ronaldo: a thrilling display against O'Shea in a pre-season friendly for Sporting Lisbon prompted Manchester United to step up their pursuit of Ronaldo in 2003, when the Red Devils beat Arsenal to his signature.

O'Shea was at Old Trafford from 1998, when he joined the youth team, until 2011.

He left for Sunderlandwho were led by former Manchester United captain Steve Bruce.

In a more serious segment of his interview with Ferdinand, Ronaldo also criticized Erik ten Hagthe man with whom he had a spectacular fight during his second stint at the club from 2021 to 2022.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner said: “The Manchester United manager cannot say that they cannot compete to win the Premier League and the Champions League every year.

“This is Manchester United! You have to be there, say in your mind… listen, maybe we don’t have that potential, but I can’t say that. We’re going to try. You have to try.

“That’s why Manchester United need to rebuild. If Ten Hag listens to Ruud van Nistelrooy… maybe he can help. He knows the club and the club should listen to the lads who were there, because this is really important.

“Fernando River, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Gary NevilleMr. Alex Ferguson… you need the advice of these people.

“You can't rebuild a club without knowledge.”
