Morgan Rogers was pleased to have emerged out of a “tough” fixture with three points, as Aston Villa triumphed 1-0 at Everton.

Facing the Toffees at Goodison Park under the stewardship of David Moyes for the first time since his reappointment, the Villans prevailed thanks to Ollie Watkins’ second-half strike, assisted by Rogers.

The midfielder admitted the satisfaction in the camp at having secured a first Premier League win in six away outings.

He said: “It was tough. A tough place to come. Big team, they’ve just got a new manager obviously.

“The way they play at home, the crowd, the atmosphere, everything about it, we knew it was going to be difficult.

“We knew we’d been on a poor run away from home as well, so we knew it was going to be tough.

“Those wins are probably a bit sweeter, the way it happened at the end, so yeah, it was nice.”

The three points were made all the more sweet for Rogers when considering Villa’s last two victories have come against sides with a new manager in the dugout.

The 22-year-old lauded his side’s defensive discipline and determination, and felt they deserved to win the game.

He added: “We’ve done it two games in a row, now, with new managers. It’s tough.

“It’s what football’s about, these different things you have to overcome.

“There was another one tonight, they were up from the start, but I thought we handled it pretty well, the majority of the game.

“I thought we defended incredibly well and probably deserved the win in the end, so we’re really happy.”
