- Aston Villa Vs. FC Bayern München – Wed, Oct 2nd 2024, 20:00
Morgan Rogers felt like Aston Villa had a 12th man with the support from the stands against Bayern Munich and saluted a special victory.
Villa fans were in loud voice throughout for the club’s first home match in Europe’s elite club competition for 41 years.
Supporters soaked up every moment of a special occasion and gave their backing from start to finish as Unai Emery’s side made it two wins from two in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
Emi Martínez admitted “it’s the loudest Villa Park I’ve heard since I joined the club”, and Rogers was in agreement with his team-mate.
“I’ve only been here a short period of time but that was obviously by far the best atmosphere I’ve experienced,” said the attacking midfielder.
“The crowd were amazing from start to finish.
“It really dragged us on and really got us going.
“We felt like we were playing with 12 out there. It was massive. To get the win is special.
“I really can’t put it into words how happy, not just me, but the whole team are.”
Rogers has enjoyed an impressive start to life in the Champions League and made more successful dribbles (nine) than any other player following the opening two matches.
But it was Jhon Durán who was the matchwinner yet again for Villa, stepping off the bench to net a memorable long-range strike against Manuel Neuer.
It was the Colombia international’s fifth winning goal in six strikes this season, and Rogers hailed Villa’s No.9.
“He kind of gives me energy in the last 20 minutes if I’m a bit tired and run around a bit,” said Rogers.
“He comes on and causes defenders nightmares. You can see the quality he’s got.
“He’s won how many games for us this season? He’s a great player.
“You can see that he’s only going to get better. For him to be 20 is mad.
“It’s a good finish and he’ll keep going.”
