“From a player's point of view, I think he would be furious,” Keane said. “You are going to play some games, he played 70 minutes, he is a sitting midfielder, you use your intelligence in terms of when to run and when to sit.

“Obviously David Moyes will be worried in terms of getting injured quickly, but from a player's point of view, he has to get minutes, he has to get games.

“Remember that he is on loan from City, he will go to Old Trafford and now he is sitting on the bench.

“Obviously David Moyes is an experienced manager but I think from a player's point of view he will be furious.”

Phillips played just 318 minutes of football for City this season before moving to West Ham and made just 21 appearances last season.

Starters came in just four of those games, and Pep Guardiola clearly didn't keep him high in the midfield pecking order.

Moyes opted to start Tomas Soucek and Edson Alvarez instead of Phillips, who eventually replaced Vladimir Coufal in the 72nd minute on Sunday.

However, United They then achieved a 3-0 victory on their own turf thanks to a goal from Rasmus Hojlund and two from Alejandro Garnacho.
