Sky Germany reports that even though Sandro Wagner is contracted until 2026 as Germany assistant coach, he could still leave the role.
This summer, Wagner has already received offers to become a head coach not only in Germany but abroad as well, but the former striker has remained loyal to the German national team. However, if an interesting offer comes in for Wagner he would be open to leaving his role as assistant coach.
Wagner has been Julian Nagelsmann’s assistant for around a year and is key to the coaching team as he is regularly involved in the training sessions and easily communicates with the squad, whether that be positive or negative. The way he operates in training is also respected by the players.
Previously, Wagner had been linked to a return to Hoffenheim as head coach to replace Pellegrino Matarazo but the American decided to stay at the PreZero Arena. However, the door will remain open for the former Hoffenheim striker if he wishes to become their head coach.
