Fabrizio Romano reports that SC Freiburg right-back Kiliann Sildillia has already agreed on personal terms with Marseille ahead of a potential return to France.
The two clubs are now in negotiations over a transfer fee with Marseille having sent their first offer to the Schwarzwald side. The 22-year-old currently has a contract until 2026 at Freiburg and is valued at €15m by transfermarkt.
Sildillia has been at Freiburg since 2020 when he joined on a free transfer from Metz. During his time in the Breisgau, the 22-year-old has developed into a versatile defender who can play as a right-back or as a centre-back. He is currently at the Olympics with France and played the entirety of their opening game against USA on Wednesday.
A departure of the 22-year-old will mean that Freiburg will only have one senior right-back in Lukas Kübler in the squad, whether they promote someone from their fabled youth team is yet to be seen. Freiburg also recently sold Hugo Siquet to Club Brugge after the Belgian struggled to fit in at the Europa Park only making four appearances for the first team.
This season will be an interesting one for Freiburg as it will be their first without Christian Streich as head coach. His replacement is former player Julian Schuster who has never managed at any senior level.
