On Tuesday evening, Bayern Munich held Arsenal to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. Despite Arsenal dominating the majority of the game, Bayern Munich’s resilient defensive performance frustrated the hosts, who could have ended up on the losing side after a contentious penalty incident.
Nevertheless, while Bayern will still feel as though the tie is in their hands heading to the Allianz Arena all square, they will be without a number of key players. Alphonso Davies will miss the game through suspension after picking up his third yellow card in the Champions League this season.
However, most frustratingly for Der Rekordmeister, they will be without Serge Gnabry for the foreseeable future. Speaking to Prime Video after the game, head coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed that the former Arsenal winger will be sidelined through injury:
“Hamstring injury! He’s definitely out. That’s definitely an issue that we have. We have to find a solution for next week.”
It has certainly been a difficult season for Gnabry, who has now suffered his fourth separate injury of the campaign. Having recently fought his way back into Tuchel’s side after a muscle injury left him out for nearly four months, the 28-year-old could now miss the rest of the season.
After scoring Bayern’s first goal—and his fourth in his last five appearances—Gnabry appeared to be back to his brilliant self. However, the record champions will now need to plan without his services as they look to bring the Champions League back to Bavaria.
