Sevilla and Real Betis have offered the chance to sign the Brazil international striker – but the deal comes with a big problem
Sevilla will almost certainly be on the lookout for a new striker this summer, with Youssef En-Nesyri expected to leave the club 12 months before his contract expires. He was offered a replacement, this being Gabriel Barbosa from Flamengo – also known as Gabigol.
Gabigol has been in prolific form for Flamengo in recent years, and his agent is keen to secure a return to Europe. According to ABC (via Sports stadium), offered Gabigol to Sevilla, as well as Real Betis, after visiting Sevilla earlier this week.
The problem for every club is that Gabigo cannot play until next April (2025). This is as a two-year ban was recently handed down to the 27-year-old after it was reported that he “tried to cheat the Brazilian Football Federation's anti-doping control”.
This is a massive obstacle, and of course it means that neither Seville neither The Real Betis will try to sign Barbosa this summer.
