Marcao's time at Sevilla has been nothing short of hell. The Brazilian centre-back, signed for €14m from Galatasaray in 2022, has struggled mainly with injuries since moving to Andalusia, which has meant he has played just 21 times in the previous two seasons.

Due to injuries, Marcao has been unable to start either of Sevilla's last two pre-season campaigns in 2022 and 2023, although he hopes to be available for the start of Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta's tenure. He played 45 minutes in the last game of last season against Barcelona, and he came through that undisputed appearance.

However, Sevilla does not see the situation as optimistic. As reported by AS DiaryClub officials are considering whether to terminate Marcao's contract in the coming weeks due to their belief that he is unable to stay fit for a sustained period of time.

The problem for Seville is that Marcao's contract lasts until 2027, so they will have to pay a significant amount for the last three years of his deal. Given their financial problems, they can now particularly afford to do so.
