Simon Jordan believes Sheffield United need to get rid of Chris Wilder right now and that Blades fans “deserve so much better”.
They suffered another humiliating defeat at Bramall Lane on Monday night. Wilder's team suffered a 6-0 drubbing by the title contenders Arsenalwith four of the goals scored within the first 25 minutes.
Blades owner Prince Abdullah told talkSPORT last summer that he wanted to take a “break” from football ownership, a statement that foreshadowed what was going to be a disappointing season.
Sheffield United They lost Man City loanee Tommy Doyle to Wolves, among other stars, this summer. Top scorer Iliman Ndiaye was also sold, followed by a lack of investment needed to survive in the Premier League.
Paul Heckingbottom He was fired early in the season after a poor start, and Wilder returned shortly after. However, the Blades are still struggling as they sit last in the league with just 13 points to their name and are currently 11 points adrift of safety.
Talking about what went wrong for the Blades, who finished second in the Championship last season, Simon Jordan said: “They didn't help themselves, did they? They didn't give themselves the opportunity to succeed as a result of that.”
“They didn't help each other at the beginning of the season. It's a club that wanted to sell itself, an owner who no longer seems to be interested in the club and some of its best players are sold. Sander Berge sold and so on and so on.
“But there's a part of me that, if I were bad, would say this couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.”
When asked by Jim White, White and Jordan's co-host, why he felt that way about Wilder, Jordan replied: “I just don't like what he represents in football management.
“That's my view and I haven't seen anything from him in his coaching career apart from his initial assault on the Premier League when I thought he was brilliant, a breath of fresh air and everything football management should be about. I do not apologize for being there, we are here because we have the merit of being there.
“What I see of him now is that he is like a cuckoo, standing around and waiting for other managers to fall so he can take their places. Maybe his colleague Paul Heckingbottom would have something to say about what a good friend he thinks he is. I don't know. I know, maybe, we'll see.
“But what happens with Chris Wilder It's that he's supposed to have gone in there and given them the ability to overcome adversity. “What a pathetic, whiny statement that the players are 'broken.'”
Wilder told the press that the players were 'hurt' following the embarrassment against the Gunners, although he admitted he did not blame the fans for leaving early.
However, Jordan has not accepted Wilder's comments and insists it must be his responsibility to fix the team's mentality.
“What about adversity?” Jordan continued. “This is what you have. The fans. I firmly believe that fans and fans should stay and watch their team. The key term there is fans. But you have to give them something to support.
“So I'm not surprised by the idea that they're walking off the field after 20 minutes, because you can't play the way you're playing right now.
“Teams like Arsenal can do this to you, but they have already done it to them on several occasions.”
As well as being defeated by Arsenal, Sheffield United also lost 8-0 to Newcastle and 5-0 to Brighton and Aston Villaall at home.
In their last three games at Bramall Lane alone, Sheffield United have conceded 16 unanswered goals.
“That has to do with the culture of the club,” Jordan said. “(Wilder) was brought in to make it better. “I don't look at the Sheffield United team and look at Luton and say, man for man, they've got a much better team there.
“I know Ross Barkley “It's setting the house on fire at the moment, and it could have gone either way, but I don't look at Luton and say 'they've got much better players with a much better culture'.”
When asked what it is about the Hatters that makes them better than the team that finished above them in the Championship last season, Jordan had a simple answer.
“Well, in my opinion, a better coach and a more galvanized group of players,” he said. “That's the manager's responsibility.”
He continued: “Whether I like Chris Wilder or not, this guy should be fired. The performances are bad.
“How can you defend it and not do it? If you judge football by other standards that people judge, which is when the coaches come in and the results are so bad, why would I be immune to that conversation?
“Whether its owner is partly complicit, which I absolutely believe he is, the club deserves better than this. If you're going to go out, swing it!”
