Aston Villa are in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a move for Donyell Malen, talkSPORT understands.

Dortmund are willing to sell Dutch international Malen for a fee in the region of £25m.

Chief football correspondent Alex Crook believes Malen would represent a “decent” deal for Villa in case the move occurs.

“He brings a level of experience,” Crook said on talkSPORT.

“Dutch international, he also played a lot of European football.

“He has been part of a Borussia Dortmund team that is usually around in the Bundesliga, so he could be a decent signing for Villa.”

Villa have been looking for a versatile striker who can play among the front three from the £60m summer exit from Moussa Diaby to the Saudi Pro League Al Ittihad.

Malen joined Dortmund in 2021 from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, where he scored 55 goals in 116 appearances in all competitions.

The 25-year-old was Dortmund's top scorer in the Bundesliga last season with 13 goals.

However, Malen has started just ten of Dortmund's 22 games this season and may feel he has a better chance of playing regularly at Villa.

He was sold to PSV in August 2017.
