Roy Keane harshly criticized Christian Eriksen for comments he made after Manchester United's Europa League draw against FC Twente.
Eriksen He was both hero and villain when he scored, but then lost the ball in a dangerous area for Twente to equalize as the match finished 1-1 at Old Trafford.
It was a characteristic performance of those we have seen from Erik ten Hag's side this season, with the players under fire for another lackluster game.
But for one expert, it wasn't just united manThe poor game that was so infuriating.
For the legendary Red Devils midfielder Keaneone player's evaluation of the game was equally disappointing.
after the game Eriksen reflected on a match in which he had played an important role.
he said TNT Sports: “I think we are disappointed as a team.
“I think we obviously wanted more, but in the end it was far from good enough.
“Also in the locker room it seemed like they loved him more than us and that can't be right.”
But there was one part of Eriksen's analysis that really irritated the former Republic of Ireland international.
speaking in Stay with footballsponsored by sky betKeane explained exactly what he had done with the comments.
“Eriksen is a player with international experience, a lot of experience,” he said. “He has returned to the United team in recent weeks because the coach says he is doing very well in training.
“Eriksen is not going to close the gap with Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City, not at all.
“So he came out after the game a couple of weeks ago and actually said (Twente wanted him more).
“Even if you feel that way and it hasn't happened where you felt like they wanted it more than you, don't say it, fool.
“Someone should grab him and say, 'Why are you sending messages about us?'”
Keane continued: “I would be upset if he came in after a game and felt like another team wanted him more than us.
“You try to make sure that doesn't even cross anyone's mind.
“The pressure, the expectation, enjoy all that. We don't win every week, there were times when we didn't win anything, obviously. But you would embrace that Man United badge, the history.”
The Europa League is not the only place where Man United have struggled to impress this season.
They have taken just eight points from their first seven Premier League games as manager Ten Hag's job still appears to be up for grabs.
Defeats to Brighton, Tottenham and Liverpool epitomize what has been another lackluster campaign so far.
A goalless draw against Aston Villa before the international break seemed to ease some of the pressure, but games against Brentford and West Ham upon their return will be further test.
