Simon Rolfes optimistic about keeping Jonathan Tah at Bayer Leverkusen

Bayern Munich’s transfer poker for Jonathan Tah continues but as we edge closer to the new Bundesliga season, Bayer Leverkusen’s Simon Rolfes is optimistic that they can keep the German defender at the club.

Despite Bayern’s efforts, it was recently revealed that a deal for the 28-year-old was in jeopardy.

Regardless, Bayern have since made a new offer to Die Werkself, which is understood to be an upfront fee of €20 million as well as an additional €5 million in add-ons. This is compared to their previous €20 million package, which would have seen €18 million paid upfront, with €2 million in future add-ons.

When asked whether or not Bayer Leverkusen have set a deadline for Bayern Munich and their pursuit of Tah, Rolfes said: “Maybe yes, maybe no. But one this is certain, I won’t say.”

Because of Bayern’s inability to sell Matthijs de Ligt, that could also end the Rekordmeister’s pursuit of Tah and with Hiroki Ito’s broken foot, which he picked up in the game against Düren, Vincent Kompany remains short on defensive options.

But Rolfes hasn’t heard from Bayern since Ito’s injury, adding: “Nobody has contacted us since then. The situation remains that there is no offer from any club that is acceptable to us and corresponds with Jona’s’ value.”
