Speaking to the media (via Bild) after Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-1 draw with Brest in Brittany, Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has provided an update on the injury to forward Amine Adli.

When asked about Adli’s injury, Rolfes said:

“We’ll have to wait for the medical examinations on Thursday. It’s something in his ankle, maybe even further above it. It looks like he’ll be out for the time being. In any case, it’s an injury that won’t just last a few days.”

Head coach Xabi Alonso echoed his statements after the game:

“Amine’s injury is the bad news today. We are very worried about him. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look good. He is in a lot of pain. The tackle was much too hard. I fear that something has broken in his left ankle. We now have to wait for the tests.”

Adli came on for Leverkusen in the 63rd minute in France last night and played 20 minutes before a challenge from on-loan Borussia Dortmund defender Soumaila Coulibaly forced the forward off. Rolfes gave his opinion on the challenge by Coulibaly:

“If he goes in like that, he is risking injury as a defender. It’s not just about whether he played the ball.”

Tests will take place in Leverkusen today to determine the severity of his ankle injury.

Leverkusen came away from Brittany with a 1-1 draw but it was a game they struggled in as at times Brest just looked like they wanted to win more and caused a lot more issues for Matej Kovar in the second half.
