Sir Jim Ratcliffe reveals player Man United misses most after Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham comment
Sir Jim Ratcliffe believes Manchester United are missing a player of Paul Scholes' quality at the moment.
The INEOS boss is now in charge of football operations alongside Sir Dave Brailsford following their minority takeover of the first division side.
In an interview with former Olympic and Tour de France cyclist Geraint Thomas, Ratcliffe was asked if Manchester United would be interested in signing a player of the English midfielder's quality. Judas Bellingham.
Bellingham famously toured Man United's training ground as Europe's top clubs competed for his signature before deciding to join Borussia Dortmund at the age of 17 in 2020 en route to real Madrid superstardom.
When asked if they would like to try and sign him again, Ratcliffe replied: “He's a great footballer, but that's not our approach.
“The solution is not to spend a lot of money on a couple of great players. They have, if you look at the last 10 years, they have spent a lot of money.
“The first thing we have to do is get the right people in the right boxes to manage and organize the club and make sure the recruitment is right.
“Getting it right is a vital part of running a football club.”
Kylian MbappéThe name also came up during the podcast, with the 25-year-old French striker out of contract this summer and available on a free transfer.
Ratcliffe responded: “I would rather find the next Mbappé.
“Instead of spending a fortune to buy success. It's not so smart to go and sign Mbappé, anyone could figure it out.”
“What is more difficult is to find the next Mbappé, the next Bellingham, the next Roy Keane.”
Ratcliffe was then asked what great United player he would bring to the club in his prime, saying: “Pablo Scholes I would bring. That is the player who is missing the most.
“They are not Roy Keane, but they have Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo, they are more defensive. They do not have a Scholes, nor (Andrés) Iniesta.”
