'Sit down': John Terry criticized by former Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill over Andre Villas and Boas row at Chelsea

John Terry has been criticized for undermining Andre Villas-Boas after a revealing story about player power at Chelsea.

During his time as captain, Terry led a locker room full of strong personalities and great players, including Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Ashley Cole and Petr Cech.

Some managers struggled to deal with egos at Stamford Bridge, including Villas-Boaswhich lasted less than one season in west London.

Speaking to talkSPORT presenter Simon Jordan about his Podcast in frontThe former England international spoke of how Villas-Boas sought to stamp his authority from day one.

Terry revealed that the former Tottenham manager attempted to place youth players in first class and established players in economy ahead of a pre-season tour, something Terry said would not happen.

Reacting to the story, the former Aston Villa, Celtic and Leicester boss Martin O'Neill hit on the Chelsea legend and told him he was out of line throwing under the bus for his manager.

Speaking on the White & Jordan Show, he said: “If I had put myself in that situation where I thought the main players were going to rebel, I would have driven that plane myself and dropped them off at the airport.

“I would have done it, absolutely. Because the moment Villas-Boas decides that the players will have to be promoted again, he will lose the locker room.

“If you lose the locker room because of that, you'll lose it because of tactics, you'll lose it because of everything, and that's the point.

“Five or six months ago a former Chelsea player, John Obi Mikel, was here and he was saying the samethat the players ran it.

“Well then they didn't need a coach if that was the case. Don't get me wrong, they won and they won big and that's great, I'm delighted.”

“But somewhere along the way it still has to be controlled. John TerryI know that Simón has a lot of time for himself, he has been a fabulous footballer, a great center back and a great leader.

“But in the end, I'm sorry, but you're going to have to be guided, John, and you're going to have to listen to what I'm saying.

“You may not necessarily agree with it, but I'm going to win this and you're going to sit in the back of that plane and stay there or stay at the airport.

“I'm not just saying that because I look like I'm really great. I would have done that as a coach.”

No captain has lifted more Premier League titles than Terry, who won five while wearing the armband, as well as winning the Champions League and Europa League.

Their record also includes five FA Cups and three League Cups, indicating that this is a team that knew how to win things, with or without a manager.

“To be fair, I probably wouldn't have picked that fight. I think I would have judged the situation,” O'Neill added.

“If it was AVB's first day in charge then maybe it's a different issue, but if he's been there for a few weeks then you're going to have to work with these players.

“So don't lose a battle you're going to lose the way you lost it.”
