Brentford striker Neal Maupay says it was “very easy” to liquidate the Tottenham team following his recent dispute with James Maddison.
Maupay appeared to annoy the Spurs midfielder by copying his trademark dart-throwing celebration after opening the scoring for Brentford against Tottenham last month.
Maddison fought back against the Frenchman after Spurs came from behind to win 3-2, claiming Maupay hasn't scored enough goals in his career to have a celebration of his own.
“I just told him that he probably hadn't scored enough goals in recent years to have his own celebration, so he had to copy mine.” the England international told TNT Sports.
“It's a short story, but it ended well for us anyway.”
After a brief period of attacks on social media, the conflict finally calmed down. That was until maupay appeared to reignite the dispute during a discussion about the Premier League's most iconic final moments.
His darts celebration was among the highlights and the striker admits it was “funny” to see Maddison take offense to his imitation.
“Believe it or not, that wasn't planned.” Maupay told Sport Bible.
“I scored and as I was running I thought I was going to throw a dart. He celebrates his goals like this, but apparently you can't throw a dart, only he can. The way he took offense was quite funny.
“The big man (Ivan Toney) got away with it because he did too, but everyone supported me. That's class, I can't lie.
“It would have been better if we had won. But instead, in front of his fans, he angered all of his players, that's a joke.
“Just by throwing a dart I got 11 players to toast,” he added. “It was so easy.
“It's crazy how easy it is, but I'm just having fun, it's fun for me. “Football is a game and I try to have fun.”
The only thing missing from Maupay's night of trolling in north London was the three points that would have taken struggling Brentford further away from the relegation battle they find themselves in.
He joined Brentford in 2017 and spent two seasons at the club before moving to Brighton, where he became their all-time Premier League goalscorer.
But an unfortunate spell on Everton he followed, scoring just once in 32 appearances after an £11 million transfer.
Maupay returned to Brentford on loan last summer and has regained some of his old form, having scored six goals in 23 league games this season.
