They will also have a 17.5 percent resale right for any future movement.

Fulham will keep around 20 per cent of the fee, as part of the deal that took him to Anfield from Craven Cottage.

The news will be a hard blow for Southampton who saw a £15million bid for the 21-year-old rejected earlier this week.

The offer was rejected with Liverpool reluctant to lose the talented Portuguese star.

However, his stance appears to have changed now that a move to Brentford is on the cards.

Speaking to talkSPORT last month, Redmen TV's Dan Clubbe said: “Unfortunately I think it's a sale due to the fact that I'm not sure where he plays in this Liverpool team.

“For me, he's an archetypal number 10 and you have to play with a pure number 10 to get the best out of him and Liverpool don't play with that.

“He made a mistake not having a position when he played under Jurgen Klopp – he went to Leipzig, didn’t really work out, then went to Hull and showed his form.

“But this Liverpool team doesn't operate like a team that can count on someone of his type and caliber, so I think we will have to take advantage of it this summer.”

The move to west London will be an easy transition for Carvalho, who came through the youth ranks at Brentford rivals Fulham.

His breakthrough season came in the 2021/22 campaign, where he scored 11 goals and contributed eight assists to help Fulham to promotion from the Championship.

Carvalho joined Liverpool for just £5m in the summer of 2022, making 21 appearances in his first season on Merseyside, starting just eight times and scoring three goals.

Last season, he endured a frustrating loan spell with RB Leipzig in the first half of the campaign, before proving his ability in a hugely successful loan spell with Hull.

Falling back into the Championship, Carvalho scored nine goals and created two in 20 appearances as Hull fell just short of a play-off place.
