The 18-year-old made his Premier League debut against the 13-time champions, having already made three substitute appearances this season.

And it didn't look out of place at St Mary's.

His fellow defenders may have struggled against the Red Devils, but Dibling did a great job on the right flank.

There he gave Diogo Dalot A torrid afternoon, which left him upside down and which earned his team a penalty at night.

Southampton wasted that chance when Cameron Archer saw his penalty and subsequent header saved by Andre Onana.

However, the 63 minutes Dibling spent on the pitch were a brilliant demonstration of his potential.

And the talkSPORT commentator Sam Matterfaceand Premier League legend Stuart Pearce We were also seriously impressed.

After half an hour, Pearce said: “Dibling has had a good start to the game and it's interesting to see a certain devotee of Jack Grealish “I'm looking at his gestures and how he behaves. But he certainly started the match very well.”

Matterface added: “He certainly has, he's had a very good start to the season.

“Tyler Dibling has that ethereal quality about him, doesn't he? That classic winger look.

“The head almost falls on the chest. It looks a bit like… Chris Waddle “Back then, with the shirt outside the pants.”

Pearce replied: “Yes, it certainly does. I've never been able to play in that subdued way. The style of playing that people associate with me is more rustic.”

And just moments after earning that accolade, he went and won a penalty against Southampton, once again dazzling rival Dalot.

Aaron Ramsdale reveals a surprising career ambition he hasn't achieved yet!

Matterface commented: “He's been causing him problems for the first 30 minutes and Tyler Dibbling, the 18-year-old, just came down wide of the Portuguese, got into the box and brought him down.”

Pearce acknowledged the punishment he gave Dalot in the first half, adding: “Well, Dalot has had a tough day already and he went down.

“He wasn't close to the ball, he went to the ground, he took the player out, for me it's a penalty.”

And Southampton fans will be hoping to see a lot more from Dibling after such a fine display against quality opponents.
