Barcelona is unlikely to have a lot of money to spend in the summer, and so the pressure will be on Deco to get good with the players he can bring.
According to Sport, Barcelona will look to get stronger and faster in the transfer market this summer, with Deco feeling they lack enough power to compete with their rivals. That's part of the thinking behind it interest in Everton midfielder Amadou Onanathat would give Barcelona that physical prowess in the middle of the park that they lack today.
“You can't take a group of kids, dress them in a Barca shirt and expect them to win titles overnight.” Deco he said in a recent interview with Nascer do Sol.
“The team has not shown, in many games, a physical and athletic ability with which it could overcome its opponents.”
The problem for Deco is that he cuts to the heart of a heated style debate in Barcelona, and acting as if he wants to sacrifice technical quality for physical attributes, he is likely to receive a lot of stick from the fans. Even if this is his intention, it would be better to phrase it differently, or just not say it at all. After his recent comments about “breaking the past” went viral, Deco will quickly learn that saying the wrong thing will create problems for him.
