Stefan Kuntz to replace Jonas Boldt as Hamburg’s Director of Sport

Sky Germany reports that Stefan Kuntz is set to return to German football as Hamburg’s new Director of Sport, replacing the outgoing Jonas Boldt.

Boldt is set to have his contract at Hamburg terminated, which was set to expire next summer. Earlier in the season, Boldt decided to part ways with head coach Tim Walter and replace him with Steffen Baumgart, which saw no improvement in the team’s performance and they missed out on promotion.

Hamburg finished the season 4th five points off of Fortuna Düsseldorf in the relegation playoff spot. To make matters worse, city rivals St.Pauli were promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history as champions.

Kuntz will take over and try and help Hamburg get promoted back into the Bundesliga at the seventh time of asking. The former Germany under-21 manager has held similar roles since retiring as he has been director of football at both Bochum and TuS Koblenz as well as chairman of former club Kaiserslautern.
