Sky Germany reports that initial talks have been held between Borussia Dortmund and Sven Mislintat over a potential return to the club.
If current sporting director Sebastian Kehl is promoted to sports manager which would be a role that would see him take over from outgoing CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, then a replacement for the former midfielder would need to be brought in. Mislintat is reportedly interested in a return to Dortmund and would happily take up the role of sporting director.
Mislintat was previously in a director role at Dortmund, Arsenal, VfB Stuttgart and more recently at Ajax but his time in the Netherlands ended rather abruptly.
During his first spell at Dortmund, Mislintat earned the nickname ‘Diamantenauge’ or Diamond Eye due to his ability to scout players. His track record saw Robert Lewandowski, Shinji Kagawa, Ilkay Gündogan, Marco Reus, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmané Dembele to name a few join the club during his time as head of scouting.
However, any return for Mislintat could only be completed once Watzke’s successor has been found, whether that be Kehl or Eintracht Frankfurt’s Markus Krösche who was also linked with the role.
